Biography

Qian Xiao is a Tenured Associate Professor in the Statistics Department at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from UCLA in 2017 and served as Assistant Professor and then Tenured Associate Professor at the University of Georgia (2017–2024). His research interests include: optimal computer experiment design and analysis, particularly space-filling designs and Gaussian process modeling; uncertainty quantification and Bayesian optimization, focusing on improving prediction and decision efficiency in engineering simulations and AI black-box systems, with extensions to reinforcement learning algorithm development; and statistical methods in biomedical and public health applications, such as cancer drug dose optimization and policy evaluation. His work has been published in top statistics journals including Annals of Statistics, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Biometrika, Technometrics, and Science China: Mathematics. In recent years, he has led a National Key R&D Program "Young Scientist Project" and was selected for a national-level young talent program.
